How To: Replace/Delete Protected DLL Files In Windows 7

Windows doesn’t allows the user to delete or replace the protected system files that are very essential to run Windows smoothly. But we can’t follow Windows rule all the time since we need to experiment with various system files in order to change the functionality or the look of Windows.

In most of the causes Windows will not boot if you have not replaced the system file neatly or if you have tinkered with system file in an inappropriate way. To avoid all those frustrations we need to know the right steps to a replace a system file.

In Windows XP, we used to use a software called Replacer, but it’s not fully compatible with Windows 7 and Vista. Unlike Windows XP, Vista & 7 doesn’t require to disable “Windows File Protection” feature to play with system files. You can start playing with system files by taking ownership of the files in Vista & 7.

Replace protected DLL files in Windows 7

Follow the below steps to replace any system file with a new one or to modify it. Make sure you follow the instructions before start the adventure. For instance, let’s consider a system protected file labeled Shell32.dll as the file to be replaced in this guide.

* The best way to start the procedure is to backup Windows. I recommend cloning software like Macrium Reflect (Free) or Acronis True Image or Windows 7’s inbuilt image backup feature to create a good backup.

* Head to the folder where the file is located. In this case, Shell32.dll file can be found in “C:\Windows\System32“. Where “C” is your OS (Operating system) drive.

* You can simply create a backup of system file by renaming it. But Windows doesn’t allow you to rename a protected file. So, user needs to take Ownership of the file to rename it.

* Read my detailed “How to take ownership of a file in Windows 7” to take the ownership of the file (Same method applies to Vista as well). Once you have the ownership of the file, rename the file. For instance, rename Shell32.dll to Shell32OLD.dll. Simply click Continue button if you are prompted with security dialog box.

* Obviously, the next step is the copy a new file to with the same of the system file to the same folder. Fox example, you need to move/copy a new “Shell32.dll” “C:\Windows\System32” folder. Also note that it should be a valid file.

If you have replaced a system file with invalid file means Windows will not boot next time. So make sure that the system file is valid and works fine with the version of your Windows before replacing the file. You can also delete the file once you have the ownership of the system file.

Replace System Files With Windows File Replacer

Advanced users have to face some difficulties while testing a software which requires system files to be modified. Most users rename the older system files and add “.old” at the end of the original name so that they can be later be easily identified and restored.

This is a lengthy process and can cost time. Windows Se7en File Replacer can replace and restore the system files in just two clicks. All you need to do is to select the system file that needs repair and drag & drop the new system files. After you are done with the testing, hit Restore to restore the old system files back.

How to Enable Enterprise Mode in Internet Explorer 11

Another interesting, useful and hidden feature introduced in Internet Explorer 11 is the "Enterprise Mode" which has been implemented to provide better support for websites having compatibility issues in IE11 web browser.
Basically Enterprise Mode in IE11 tries to behave like IE8 version so that older websites which can recognize IE8 but can't recognize the new IE11 version, can open properly in IE11. Enterprise Mode in IE11 replicates original IE8 user agent string and outputs IE8's response to ActiveX controls and other binaries query so that old websites can open perfectly in IE11.
Enterprise Mode also brings back many deprecated features of IE8 such as CSS Expressions, etc for websites which contain objects or legacy web apps requiring those features to run. Enterprise Mode also turns off preloading website content feature of IE11 because some old websites do not support this feature. Basically you can consider Enterprise Mode as an emulation of IE8 web browser within IE11 which uses a modified browser configuration to open incompatible websites.
Enterprise Mode in IE11 is disabled by default but interested people can enable it using following methods:

In order to fix the problem where shortcut icons turn to blank icon, try to refresh or rebuild the cache database for icons. There are many system management software utilities that may reset the icon cache db automatically, but here’s how to reset the icon cache db manually.

To refresh and reset the icons cache, go to the following folder:

C:\Users\\AppData\Local\

To see the hidden AppData folder, go to Organize -> Folder and Search Options -> View tab, and select Show hidden files, folders and drives, and uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).

Once inside the folder, delete IconCache.db. Create a new file named IconCache.db, and set it toRead Only attribute in Properties (if the file is not read only, the cache won’t be reset). Then restart the computer. Remove the Read Only attribute of IconCache.db file, and the icons cache will be refreshed. The step will restore the desktop shortcut icons to their lawfully icons.

Saya tertarik dengan status YM seorang sahabat di Mesir yang ditulis dalam Bahasa Arab. Maknanya lebih kurang begini:

Belajarlah "aku tidak tahu", kerana jika engkau belajar "aku tidak tahu", mereka akan mengajar engkau sehingga engkau tahu, tetapi jika engkau belajar "aku tahu" maka mereka akan bertanya engkau sehingga engkau tidak tahu!!

Boleh faham kot..

Pulang ke Malaysia ni, saya ditanya pelbagai soalan. Ada yang bertanya begini, "Saya dengar orang kata hukum A begini...." atau " Kakak saya kata saya wajib buat begini kerana saya lakukan kesalahan tu" dan pelbagai soalan yang senada.

Saya terfikir. Mudah betul masyarakat kita mengeluarkan hukum syara' ya.

Dalam tazkirah di Masjid Al-Ikhlas, Selayang Baru, beberapa hari lepas, saya ada menyebut betapa ada di kalangan kita yang menjawab persoalan hukum dengan ayat "saya rasa" atau "i think". Respons dari jemaah masjid, saya lihat mengiyakan kenyataan saya.

Amat ramai masyarakat kita yang tidak berautoriti dalam masalah hukum, mengeluarkan fatwa. Di lelaman siber lebih-lebih lagi. Alasan mereka, "Islam untuk semua". Ya, memang Islam untuk semua. Ilmu Islam juga terbuka buat semua ummat mempelajarinya. Tetapi bezakan dengan memberikan hukum. Proses pengeluaran hukum terlalu payah dan berat.

Ulamak terdahulu ada yang menyebutkan, "Apabila aku ditanya satu persoalan, terlalu berat bagiku, bagai terpampang di hadapanku neraka dan syurga." Hingga mereka terlalu takut untuk menjawab persoalan. Takut dicampak ke neraka. Malah kita semua dah dengar kisah Imam Malik yang menjawab beberapa persoalan sahaja dari puluhan yang ditanya. Malah akan dibentak apabila dikatakan "ini kan soalan simple je wahai Imam?"

Ulamak juga kata, perkataan "tidak tahu" itu separuh dari ilmu. Kita pula tidak. Bagai seorang yang paling tahu semua perkara. Sampai habis para ulamak dahulu pun dibantainya.

Apa beza kita dengan ulamak dahulu sehingga mereka mudah menyebut Wallahu A'lam atau "aku tidak tahu"? Tentu sekali taqwa. Mereka lebih takutkan konsekuensi menjawab itu berbanding kita yang memiliki ego mengatasi taqwa. Bulan ramadhan ini mengajar kita bertaqwa, jadi mari kita aplikasikan juga taqwa di sini.

Kalau kita sangka kita tahu, sedangkan kita sebenarnya tak tahu, inilah yang dinamakan sebagai jahil murakkab. Jahil tahap paling teruk. Jahil berganda. Pertamanya, jahil permasalahan tu. Keduanya jahilkan kelemahan diri tu sendiri. Seterusnya menyangkakan yang batil itulah haq. Kasihan bukan?

Maka itu kita kena budayakan sifat "aku tidak tahu". Mana ada manusia yang tahu semua perkara. Walau belajar berpuluh tahun pun dengan syaikh-syaikh yang hebat, takkan tahu semua perkara. Inikan pula belajar setahun dua. Suka ponteng pula tu.

Jom kita belajar "tidak tahu"!

Dunia memang penipuan, ada penipuan yang dapat kita jangkakan, ada pula penipuan yang tidak dijangkakan. Berita yang disiarkan oleh five tv UK semalam, menarik saya untuk mencoretkan sedikit nasihat kepada pembaca berkenaan penipuan serius yang dilakukan oleh kedai-kedai baiki komputer. Laporan dan kajian yang dilakukan adalah di beberapa buah kedai di London, tetapi saya yakin ia mungkin sahaja berlaku di tempat lain khususnya Malaysia.

Menurut laporan itu, pihak penyiasatan sengaja merosakkan sedikit komputer mereka dengan melonggarkan internal cip memori (amat muda untuk dibaiki). Kemudian, menyerahkannya ke beberapa buah kedai komputer untuk proses baikpulih.

Apa yang menarik, pada masa yang sama, mereka memasang sejenis alat khusus tersembunyi di komputer masing-masing berupa kamera, yang boleh merakam wajah techichan di hadapan screen komputer dan juga apa sahaja page yang ditekan oleh technician tersebut.

Keputusan yang diperolehi amat mengejutkan iaitu :-

1. Hanya satu kedai yang jujur terus terang memberitahu hanya kerosakan kecil dan ia dibaiki tanpa bayaran.
2. Semua kedai lain (hampir 5 buah), didapati membuka fail peribadi pemilik computer, melihat gambar peribadi pemilik computer, malah lebih dahsyat mereka turut menyalin sebahagian gambar dan maklumat peribadi.
3. Mereka juga cuba berkali-kali untuk akses ke laman internet banking yang digunakan oleh pemilik komputer, tetapi gagal kerana di dalam kes ini komputer yang dihantar adalah dirancang dan pemilik sengaja memasukkan butiran palsu. Ini bermakna jika orang biasa yang kerap memasuki internet banking melalui komputer kita yang rosak ini, maka dengan mudah pihak technician komputer boleh mencuri segala maklumat, malah boleh mengakses akaun bank kita juga.
4. Mereka juga boleh mengakses segala akaun email dan sebagainya kerana password kita yang boleh diperolehi dari komputer kita.
5. Mereka juga didapati menipu pelanggan apabila mengatakan kerosakan serius, ada yang mencadangkan pelanggan agar menukar motherboard computer yang berniali GBP 130 (RM750), sedangkan pihak penyiasat sengaja melonggar satu memori cip sahaja. Bayangkan bagaiamana penipuan sebegini dengan mudah berlaku dalam industry pembaikpulihan computer. Dalam kes ini, dua pihak telah membayar ‘refund' kepada pihak penyiasatan apabila penipuan mereka dibongkarkan sejurus selepas itu. Malangnya, syarikat yang menipu bukan hanya syarikat kecil tetapi termasuk syarikat gergasi seperti PC World!.

Berdasarkan laporan di atas, saya suka menasihatkan orang ramai agar berifkir panjang dan membuat pilihan sebaik-baiknya sebelum menghantar lap top atau desktop anda untuk pemulihan.

Anda mungkin tiada gambar peribadi sexy yang ingin dirisaukan, tetapi bagaimana dengan maklumat perbankan internet, email, facebook dan sebagainya.

Jika ada peniaga, mekanik atau technichan computer yang membaca tulisan ini, sedarlah segala tindakan tersebut adalah haram di sisi Islam, dan segala keuntungan hasil penipuan juga haram.

Seseorang peniaga mungkin dengan mudah boleh memperolehi keuntungan ganda hasil menukar benda yang tidak perlu, tetapi ia merupakan satu penipuan yang hanya melayakkan seseorang untuk berada di neraka Allah swt. Hal yang sama juga mungkin berlaku semasa kita membaiki kereta, ditukarnya benda yang tidak rosak atau sengaja dirosakkan bahagian yang tidak rosak agar boleh mendapat caj yang lebih.
